Thailand Re-Classifies Household Hazardous Substances

Thailand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced on 12 Dec 2012 a revision of thehazardous substance list regarding a batch of chemicals used in various household products. Thailand’s hazardous substance list is generated under the overarchingHazardous Substance Act.The list classifies hazardous substance into four categories, with bigger number representing greater hazards:

· Type 1 hazardous substance is that of which the production, import, export, or having in possession must comply with the specified criteria and procedures.

· Type 2 hazardous substance is that of which the production, import, export, or having in possession must first be notified to the authority and must also comply with the specified criteria and procedures.

· Type 3 hazardous substance is that of which the production, import, export, or having in possession must obtain a permit.

· Type 4 hazardous substance is that of which the production, import, export, or having in possession is prohibited.

Substance Classification
Lindane Added to be Type 4
Citronella Oil Raised from Type 1 to Type 2
Anionic Surfactants Added to e Type 1
Nonionic Surfactants Added to be Type 1
Nonylphenol Ethoxylates Remained as Type 3
