REACH24H Assists De Sangosse in Achieving China’s First Foreign New Biochemical Pesticide Registration

News Brief

The first new biochemical pesticide registration by a foreign enterprise, based entirely on Chinese GLP data, has been successfully approved since the implementation of China's new pesticide regulations eight years ago.

This milestone achievement breaks a long-standing silence. It not only introduces internationally leading biochemical control solutions to China’s green agriculture but also marks a milestone breakthrough for REACH24H in assisting overseas enterprises to overcome Chinese regulatory barriers.

A Breakthrough in Green Prevention: International Biochemical Solution Lands in China

Snails and slugs are stubborn pests that cause headaches in the cultivation of greenhouse vegetables and open-field leafy greens. Particularly in humid southern regions and high-value greenhouses, they often lead to severe yield reductions in cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage. For a long time, there has been a lack of green prevention and control agents targeting mollusks in the domestic market, while high-quality foreign products face complex regulatory access challenges when entering the Chinese market.

Recently, a biochemical pesticide product from the French company De Sangosse—2.4% ferric phosphate granule—officially received the Pesticide Registration Certificate issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China (Registration No.: PD20251262).

The value of this certificate is exceedingly high. Since the implementation of China’s new Regulation on Pesticide Administration, registration requirements have become stricter, data requirements are complex, and cases of foreign enterprises independently holding registration certificates are extremely rare. De Sangosse’s successful registration is not only a major realization of its globalization strategy in China but also sends a positive signal to the international agrochemical industry: As long as the compliance strategy is appropriate, the door to the Chinese market remains open to high-quality innovative products.

Ferric Phosphate: Naturally Derived, Safe, and Efficient Molluscicide

Ferric phosphate is an inorganic compound naturally occurring in nature, classified as a biochemical pesticide according to China’s pesticide registration categories.

Compared with traditional chemical molluscicides, ferric phosphate is known for its unique mechanism of action and excellent environmental safety. After mollusks ingest the ferric phosphate granules, iron is rapidly absorbed through the digestive tract wall, causing a disorder in calcium ion metabolism within the body. This prevents them from secreting mucus normally, hindering movement and feeding, ultimately leading to death. The newly approved 2.4% ferric phosphate granule is mainly used for the control of snails and slugs in cabbage fields. It is applied via broadcast application, with a recommended dosage of 400-500 grams per mu. The toxicity level of this product is Low Toxicity. It offers good safety for non-target organisms and is suitable for promotion and use in green food and organic agricultural production.

Ferric phosphate has had years of successful application experience in the European and American markets. Its approval for registration in China will further enrich the selection of agents for domestic mollusk control and provide strong support for the construction of a green prevention and control system in the vegetable industry.

It is reported that the product is repackaged and distributed nationwide by Sino-Agri Leading Biosciences Co., Ltd.

REACH24H: Bridging the Regulatory Gap Between China and the World

As the full-process compliance consulting partner for this project, REACH24H Consulting Group played a key role in this ice-breaking initiative.

Facing numerous hurdles for foreign enterprises registering in China—such as language barriers, regulatory understanding, and differences in technical data—the REACH24H Agrochemical Team worked closely with De Sangosse. They provided full-chain technical support ranging from top-level regulatory strategy design and data gap analysis to safety evaluation and risk assessment. Leveraging a profound understanding of China’s biochemical pesticide regulations, the team accurately grasped the evaluation standards, successfully assisted the client in overcoming multiple technical difficulties, and ensured the product passed the review smoothly.

REACH24H warmly congratulates De Sangosse on achieving this historic result! This significant registration certificate not only enriches the medicine cabinet of Chinese growers but also serves as a strong testament to the openness and inclusivity of China’s pesticide registration and evaluation system toward international green and environmentally friendly products.
