GreenCircle Certified is a globally recognized and authoritative third-party certification body specializing in sustainability, offering a range of sustainability-related certification programs, including Recycled Content, Energy Savings, Carbon Footprint Reduction, and Life Cycle Assessment Optimized.
The Recycled Content Certification aims to verify the authenticity of the source and exact percentage of recycled materials in products or raw materials, distinguishing between pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled materials within the supply chain. GreenCircle employs an internationally recognized certification process compliant with ISO/IEC 17065 standards, utilizing rigorous supply chain traceability and audits to mitigate the risk of greenwashing and provide credible green endorsements for businesses.
Who Can Apply and What's Covered?
Threshold Requirements: Products are required to contain a minimum of 1% recycled content, including pre-consumer or post-consumer recycled content.
Applicable Entities: Entities involved in the production of raw materials or products containing recycled materials are eligible to apply.
Applicable Industries: Industries to which the certification applies include, but are not limited to, plastics, textiles and fibers, packaging, wood and paper, and metals.
What Will Be Audited?
Product Composition Review: Review the Bill of Materials (BOM) and formulation to identify components containing recycled materials and ensure the accuracy and completeness of supplier contact information.
Recycled Material Source Verification: Verify the source of recycled materials through supplier declarations, invoices, and other documentation, verifying the presence and quantifying the proportion of pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled materials.
Recycled Content Calculation: Determine the percentage of pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled materials in the product based on the verified component weight and recycled content percentage.
Product Traceability and Chain of Custody: GreenCircle conducts on-site (or virtual) audits to examine the receiving, storage, and production flow process of recycled materials, confirm their integration into the final products, review finished product composition, and confirm that the company’s chain of custody and tracking system align with the provided documentation.
Certification Process
Upon successful certification, companies receive a certification certificate and a final evaluation report. Certified products will be included in the GreenCircle Certified product database.
The certification is valid for one year, and annual re-certification is required to continue using the GreenCircle Mark.
