General Overview: Registration Scale and Distribution of License Types
On August 26, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued Announcement No. 942, approving the registration or renewal of 259 imported feed and feed additive products from 103 companies. Meanwhile, 13 products from 9 companies completed registration modification and obtained renewed certificates.
Classification and breakdown of license types:
• New registrations: 161, accounting for approximately 62.2%
• Renewals: 97, accounting for approximately 37.5%
Comment: New registrations account for over 60% of the total, indicating that new products continue to enter the Chinese market to meet the diversified needs of the livestock, pet, and special animal sectors. Renewals ensure the stable supply of mature products. This "parallel development of new and existing products" structure not only maintains the market’s innovative vitality but also safeguards the stability of the industrial chain.
Product Category Distribution: Pet Food Dominates, with a Clear Functional Trend
After classifying the 259 products listed in the announcement’s appendix, we found they mainly fall into five categories:
Compound Pet Feed: 106 products, accounting for 40.9%
The primary source countries/regions are the United States (49), Italy (22), Germany (20), New Zealand (11), and Canada (4), which together account for over 90% of pet feed products. Branded, formula-based, and complete-nutrition products remain the mainstay of imported registrations.
Single Feed: 45 products, accounting for 17.2%
Major sources include Argentina (11), Russia (10), Peru (7), India (6), and Chile (3). These products are mainly bulk raw materials such as fish meal, soybean meal, and fish oil. For example, Hipro Soybean Meal (MOA Feed Approval No. 815, 2025) has a crude protein content of ≥45.5% and is widely used in livestock diets.
Compound Feed: 43 products, accounting for 16.6%
This category includes specialty feeds for horses, fish, shrimp, etc. For instance, Hallway Distinguished (MOA Feed Approval No. 596, 2025) has a crude protein content of ≥14.0% and is formulated for horses’ nutritional needs.
Mixed Feed Additives: 39 products + 3 flavoring agents, accounting for 16.1%
Most products in this category have composite functions, such as mineral elements, yeast, flavor substances, and acid regulators. An example is Cinnamaldehyde Thymol ( Enviva® EO 101 G) (MOA Feed Approval No. 576, 2025), which is used to improve animal health.
Feed Additives: 8 products, accounting for 3.1%
This category includes amino acids, mineral complexes, and yeast products. For example, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae ( Levucell SC 20 Microbead) (MOA Feed Approval No. 570, 2025) is suitable for ruminants.
Comment: Overall, pet food, single raw materials, and functional additives are the core products in this batch. Notably, pet food accounts for over 40% of the total, highlighting the huge potential of China’s pet market.
Country/Region Distribution: A Reflection of the Global Supply Chain
The 259 registered products originate from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, presenting an overall pattern of "Europe leading in technology, the Americas supporting raw materials, and Asia focusing on regional adaptability":
Europe: Approximately 130 products, accounting for 50%
Key source countries include France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, and the Netherlands. France stands out in particular, with products such as Vetinnov’s pet additives and IDENA’s mineral products, demonstrating its technological advantages in feed additives. Italy and Spain have also made breakthroughs in mineral complexes and plant extracts.
Americas: Approximately 65 products, accounting for 25%
The main sources are the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. Argentina remains dominant in bulk raw materials such as soybean meal and fish meal, while the United States supplies specialty concentrate supplements for pets and horses, such as products from Large Farmer Feed Union Co., Ltd.
Asia and Others: Approximately 64 products, accounting for 25%
Source regions/countries include India, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Singapore. India’s AVT focuses on natural plant extracts with its Feitai Le series; South Korea’s EASY BIO emphasizes probiotics with its Beikangbao product; and Russia’s rapeseed meal and fish oil reflect its advantages in low-cost raw materials.
Comment: This distribution reflects the division of labor in the global supply chain: Europe specializes in high-tech products, the Americas dominate bulk protein raw materials, and Asia focuses on cost-effectiveness and regional adaptability. Through its registration system, China integrates these global resources into its market, providing diversified options for the livestock industry.
Analysis of Key Trends: From Functional Innovation to Sustainable Transformation
Based on data and product characteristics, the products registered in August 2025 highlight several key trends:
1. Rise of Microorganisms and Enzymes: Approximately 30% of products involve yeast, bacillus, or enzymes. For example, miyarisan G (MOA Feed Approval No. 805, 2025) contains ≥1.0×10¹⁰ CFU/g of Clostridium Butyricum, which promotes intestinal health. This reflects the widespread adoption of antibiotic alternatives.
2. Growth in Specialty Products for Pets and Horses: With 106 compound pet feed products (accounting for 40.9%), pet feed has become the largest category of registered products. Additionally, there are over 10 types of concentrate supplements for horses, indicating the rise of the pet economy and equestrian industry.
3. Increased Share of Natural and Organic Ingredients: Approximately 40% of products use natural extracts or plant-based ingredients, such as yucca extract, thymol, and cinnamaldehyde. This aligns with the global trend of "antibiotic-free breeding" and promotes environmentally friendly farming practices.
4. Innovation in Mineral Element Complexes: Accounting for approximately 10% of products, examples include Switzerland Erbo’s Jinpuno series and India Kesava’s Xiyikang. These products highlight the application of amino acid complexes and organic minerals, which improve bioavailability and reduce environmental impact.
Comment: From a trend perspective, products registered in 2025 have gradually shifted from a sole focus on nutritional supplementation to functionalization and differentiation. On one hand, the application of microorganisms, enzymes, and natural plant extracts reflects the general trend of "antibiotic-free breeding" and green development. On the other hand, the increase in pet and horse products reflects the upgrading of consumer demand and the rise of niche markets. Notably, although mineral element complexes account for less than 10% of the total, they represent high added value and high technological barriers, indicating that the industry is gradually shifting from "volume competition" to "quality competition". Overall, these trends reveal that China’s feed market is rapidly adapting to the transformation direction of the global livestock industry and accelerating upgrades in safety, environmental protection, and functionality.
Conclusion
Announcement No. 942 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs approves the registration of 259 imported feed and feed additive products, with new registrations accounting for 62.2% and renewals 37.5%. Compound pet feed ranks first with a 40.9% share. The source countries/regions show a pattern of "50% from Europe, 25% from the Americas, and 25% from Asia", corresponding to advantages in technology, raw materials, and regional adaptability respectively. Products exhibit trends such as the rise of microorganisms and enzymes, and an increase in natural ingredients, reflecting the industry’s transformation toward green development and functionalization. This announcement points out the direction for the industry: enterprises need to focus on innovation and niche markets, while policymakers can optimize supervision to support the high-quality development of the industry.
