China's Taiwan Region Advocates Use of Front of Package Nutrition Labeling

  • Taiwan region's FDA encourages manufacturers to use front of package nutrition labeling on all prepackaged food.
On November 15, 2017, Taiwan region's FDA released an announcement advocating the use offront of package nutrition labeling (FoP), which is a graphic nutrition label that can be tagged anywhere on the front of package. It applies to all prepackaged food except special nutrition food and shall be listed in following order from top to bottom:
  • Unit (Per Serving)
  • Indicated items
  • Content
  • %Daily value (it can be free from indication for nutrition substances without referenced value)
Here are 3 values recommended to be labeled, and each one of three is acceptable:
  1. Energy
  2. Energy, saturated fat, sugar, sodium
  3. Energy, saturated fat, sugar, sodium, plus no more than 2 optionally-claimed nutrition
